I saw Gaga live in Helsinki last autumn. Last week I saw her on tv, same show as in Helsinki was filmed in Madison Square Garden.

In the beginning there were people telling stories they believed to be true. Then came the marketing people, artists and politics. Elvis Presley and President Kekkonen hold remarkable stories of their childhood and success.

Today is very much about stories and Lady Gaga. Every brand has a story to be told of themselves and about every product of theirs. People like stories. It is easier to remember and understand things when they are in a story-format, beginning-middle-end.

Gaga’s show is a combination of art forms, standing for equality and entertainment. She’s a brilliant performance artist and story teller. Her success story is amazing and the phenomena around this Mother Monster, one of a kind. She has done much for her age (26!), for example set foundation called Born This Way Foundation, for empowering youth and inspiring bravery. Go Gaga, I’m loving it.

Sex and the city everyday

I read my favorite blogs and noted stylish photos from Paris fashion week in Style and The City –street fashion blog. Story was called Paris Fashion Week : Sex and the City every day with Diana Enciu, Natalie Joos, Viviana Volpicella, Elisa Nalin, Alana Zimmer, Ulyana Sergeenko. In those photos ladies were wearing lovely sex and the city -style outfits.

As a fashion lover I have been inspired by the style of Sex and the City from the beginning. Patricia Field, costume designer of the series and movies, is a genius in styling. She gets even most strange garment pieces work together wonderful.

I have earlier bought Sex and the City movie books for my inspiration. Those books are full of great outfit photos, so I need to take those to active "style use".  Why couldn’t everyday be good hair day and fabulous dressing up day?

Sex and the cityä jokapäivä

Lueskelin suosikkiblogejani ja huomasin Style and The City –katumuotiblogissa tyylikkään kuvasarjan Pariisin muotiviikoilta otsikolla ”Paris Fashion Week : Sex and the City every day with Diana Enciu, Natalie Joos, Viviana Volpicella, Elisa Nalin, Alana Zimmer, Ulyana Sergeenko”. Kuvissa naiset ovat ihanissa sex and the citymäisissä asuissa.

Vaatetusintoilija kun olen, olen aina ollut valtavan inspiroitunut tv-sarja Style and The City:n tyylistä. Sarjan puvustaja Patricia Field on stailaamisen nero, omituisetkin vaatekappaleet näyttävät upeilta kokonaisuuksilta hänen yhdistelynsä jäljiltä.

Hankin aiemmin elokuviin liittyvät kuvakirjat inspiraatiokseni, niissä on upeita kuvia asuista. Pitää ottaa ne aktiivikäyttöön. Miksipä jokainen päivä ei voisi olla good hair day ja ihana pukeutumispäivä?

First impressions

The power of prejudice always manages to surprise me, and so it did during the presidential elections in Finland this year. Most people had a favourite of their own and some of the rest were not considered up to the job for one reason or another, mainly prejudice.

I also have faced prejudice occasionally, but have managed to overcome it with humour and patience. Sometimes you just have to let it be. Sometimes even fight back. Come to think about it, it’s cruel how difficult it is to chance the first impression –on the other hand the first impression can positive too. Recently, I was discussing prejudice with a friend of mine who wisely concluded we all have prejudice in one form or another and the only way to overcome then is to admit we all have them and act accordingly.

My niece recently has her seventh birthday and was hoping to get some Bionicle Legos. I asked if those Bionicle figures are a bit violent –fighters so to speak. She duly answered they can also be friends with each other. There you go; you cannot always be on top of your prejudice.

Ensivaikutelmia

Joskus ennakkokäsitykset ovat yllättävän voimakkaita. Tämän huomasin erityisen voimakkaasti tänä vuonna presidentinvaalikampanjoiden aikaan. Useimmilla meistä oli selkeä suosikki ja jostain ehdokkaasta ei pidetty syystä tai toisesta. Pääosin ennakkokäsityksen vuoksi.

Itseeni on joskus kohdistunut vahvaa ennakkokäsitystä, josta olen selvinnyt huumorilla ja pitkällä pinnalla. Joskus vain antamalla olla, aivan kuin en huomaisikaan. Joskus taistelemalla asenteita vastaakin. On rajua, että muodostamme tapaamistamme ihmisistä ensivaikutelman perusteella hyvin vankan mielikuvan, jota on vaikeaa sen jälkeen heilauttaa. Toisaalta voihan mielikuva olla hyvinkin positiivinen. Keskustelin ystävän kanssa, joka totesi viisaasti, että ehkä paras tapa ennakkokäsityksiä vastaan on sen tunnustaminen, että niitä on ja tiedostava pyrkimys nähdä niiden yli.

Sukulaistyttö toivoi seitsemän vuotta täyttäessään synttärilahjaksi Bionicle-legoja. Tiedustelin häneltä, että eivätkö nuo bioniclehahmot ole hieman väkivaltaisia, sellaisia tappelupukareita. Tyttö totesi mutkattomasti, että kyllähän ne voivat olla myös kavereita. Niin, aina ei ole mieli valppaana vaikka asioita tiedostaisikin.
