I read my favorite blogs and noted stylish photos from Paris fashion week in Style and The City –street fashion blog. Story was called Paris Fashion Week : Sex and the City every day with Diana Enciu, Natalie Joos, Viviana Volpicella, Elisa Nalin, Alana Zimmer, Ulyana Sergeenko. In those photos ladies were wearing lovely sex and the city -style outfits.

As a fashion lover I have been inspired by the style of Sex and the City from the beginning. Patricia Field, costume designer of the series and movies, is a genius in styling. She gets even most strange garment pieces work together wonderful.

I have earlier bought Sex and the City movie books for my inspiration. Those books are full of great outfit photos, so I need to take those to active "style use".  Why couldn’t everyday be good hair day and fabulous dressing up day?

Lueskelin suosikkiblogejani ja huomasin Style and The City –katumuotiblogissa tyylikkään kuvasarjan Pariisin muotiviikoilta otsikolla ”Paris Fashion Week : Sex and the City every day with Diana Enciu, Natalie Joos, Viviana Volpicella, Elisa Nalin, Alana Zimmer, Ulyana Sergeenko”. Kuvissa naiset ovat ihanissa sex and the citymäisissä asuissa.

Vaatetusintoilija kun olen, olen aina ollut valtavan inspiroitunut tv-sarja Style and The City:n tyylistä. Sarjan puvustaja Patricia Field on stailaamisen nero, omituisetkin vaatekappaleet näyttävät upeilta kokonaisuuksilta hänen yhdistelynsä jäljiltä.

Hankin aiemmin elokuviin liittyvät kuvakirjat inspiraatiokseni, niissä on upeita kuvia asuista. Pitää ottaa ne aktiivikäyttöön. Miksipä jokainen päivä ei voisi olla good hair day ja ihana pukeutumispäivä?

The Style Strategy = One more stylish Olsen


The third book in the series by fashion director Nina Garcia has just come out. It is called The Style Strategy. If the previous books, The One Hundred and The Little Black Book of were called Olsen twins by me, this one could be considered the third sister Elizabeth Olsen. With its golden cover  this compact book clearly comes from the same series as its black and silver predecessors.

In herself, Garcia is a definition of style and widely known throughout the fashion circles. Currently, she works as a fashion director for Marie Claire and I have absolutely no doubt she is a true style guru. The Style Strategy is all about less being more –how to shop clever and remain stylish. Garcia talks about balancing what you buy and your style by analysing what you really need. I rather like this eco-minded perspective, first one goes trough existing wardrobe and if necessary decimates the inventory, only then will one contemplate future acquisitions.

The book give all sorts of hints on where to source items, witty ideas from those who possess style, must have classics, and how to tell apart good and bad kitsch. The book shares the cute illustrative style of its predecessors along with witty humour. Among other things, Garcia lists best music for wardrobe clean up, including Madonna’s Vogue and Depeche Mode's Clean.

The style triplet makes a great combo, each peace inspiring to update your style.

The Style Strategy = Se kolmas tyylikäs Olsenin tytär

Muotijohtaja Nina Garcian tyylioppaiden sarjaan on ilmestynyt kolmas kirja The Style Strategy. Aiemmat kirjat The One Hundred ja The Little Black Book of Style esittelin aiemmin Olsenin kaksosina. Tämä kolmas lienee kuin kolmas sisar Elizabeth Olsen. Se on kultakantisena kompaktina pakettina selvästi samaa sarjaa kuin musta ja hopeinen edeltäjänsä. Sama idealogia jatkuu tässäkin teoksessa, tärkeintä on löytää oma tyylinsä. 

Garcia on itsetyylikkyys. Nina Garcia on tunnettu, muotipiireissä, nykyisin hän on Marie Claire -lehden muotijohtaja. En siis epäile hetkeäkään hänen tyyliguruuttaan. The Style Strategyn ideana on vähemmän on enemmän -ajattelu, kuinka pysyä tyylikkäänä ja shoppailla fiksusti. Garcia neuvoo tyylin ja ostamisen tasapainoa, analysoimalla mitä oikeasti tarvitsee. Pidän tämän tyylikirjan eko-henkisyydestä, että ensin huomioidaan jo ne vaatteet, joita vaatekaapissa roikkuu entuudestaan ja tarvittaessa karsitaan. Vasta tämän jälkeen aletaan listata ostostarpeita.

Opas neuvoo erilaisia nikseja, hyviä ostospaikkoja ja siinä on nasevia tyylikkäiden ihmisten lausahduksia muodista ja tyylistä. Teoksessa muun muassa opastetaan must have klassikkotuotteet sekä mikä ero on hyvällä ja huonolla kitchillä. Kirja on englannin kielinen, mutta sitä pystyy lukemaan sujuvasti jo kun osaa vaikka vain jonkin verran englantia. Kirja kolmosessa jatkuu aiemmista kirjoista tuttu söpö kuvitustyyli ja siinä pirskahtelee mukavalla tavalla tyylin seasta huumori. Gardia esimerkiksi listaa vaatekaapinsiivoukseen sopivia biisejä perusteluineen, listalla ovat Depeche Moden "Clean" ja Madonnan "Vogue".

Tämä tyylikolmikko on hyvä kokonaisuus, joista jokainen pala toimii itsekseenkin inspiraationa tyylin updeittaukseen.

Kate Moss Style - Inside World's Most Famous Wardrobe

I’ve always thought Kate Moss is a genius of a dresser. She’s fresh and stylish and even in her weaker days has a style kick one seldom comes across. I’m not alone here, Kate has become one of the style icons of our time.

According to my quick analysis, Kate’s style consists of carefree hair, light make-up and colour coded clothes and accessories. I think Kate’s look could be best described natural with a twist of rock glam. Kate doesn’t really use bright colours, except for red, but manages to find perfect combos tainted shades.

The delicate fashion whiz is also famous for her enthusiasm for vintage and ability to mix old and new. At first glance one would not believe Kate quite often wears such classics as t-shirt, little black dress, wool coat, and black pumps. She just combines those elements in a unique way with a vintage sequin jacket or a particular hand bag, making a unique entity that is both interesting and stylish.

Angela Buttolph’s book Kate Moss Style - Inside World's Most Famous Wardrobe tells Kate’s story and presents her style. The book has many inspiring photos of Kate’s unique style throughout the years. I especially recommend this book to anyone looking for inspiration in their dressing.

So, let's treat our classics with some exceptional finishing touches and head out stylish.

Kate Mossin tyyli


Olen ollut aina sitä mieltä, että Kate Moss on nero pukeutuja. Hän on aina raikkaan tyylikäs, jopa heikkoina hetkinään näen hänessä tyylipotkua, jota vain harvoin tapaa. En ole mielipiteeni kanssa yksin, vaan Katesta on tullut yksi aikamme suurimpia tyyli-ikoneja.

Pienen analyysini mukaan Katen tyyli koostuu huolettomasta tukasta, pienestä määrästä meikkiä, sekä väreiltään toisiinsa mätsäävistä vaatteista ja asusteista. Luonnollisuus kuvaa mielestäni erityisen hyvin huippumallina menestyneen Katen ulkonäköa, tyylikäs rock glamour hänen olemustaan. Kate ei juurikaan käytä kirkkaita perusvärejä, lukuunottamatta punaista, vaan löytää aina aavistuksen taitetun tai murretun täydellisen itselleen sopivan sävyn.

Siro muotitaituri on tunnettu myös vintage-innostaan, hän hyvin usein yhdistelee vanhaa ja uutta. Ensinäkemältä ei uskoisi, että Kate käyttää melko usein joitain klassikkotuoteita kuten t-paitaa, pikkumustaa, villakangastakkia ja mustia avokkaita. Mutta hän vain yhdistelee klassikot herkullisesti hieman valtavirrasta poikkeaviin palasiin, vaikkapa vintage paljettitakkiin tai erikoiseen käsilaukkuun, jolloin kokonaisuus on tyylikäs, uniikki ja kiinnostava.

Siispä klassikot päälle, viimeistely erikoisemmilla paloilla ja omaan tyyliin tyylikkäänä ulos.

Some people have mutual funds or shares. I have little by little used some money on vintage purses. Lately, I decided to invest in vintage golden Mulberry Mabel cutie. You know, it was a golden opportunity I had.

I need to promise not to buy any golden handbags next year.

Raha kullaksi



Raha kannattaa panna poikimaan, sanotaan. Voi joko muuttaa kultaa rahaksi, tai rahaa kullaksi. Olen alkanut vähitellen sijoittamaan vintagekasseihin, joten tilaisuuden tullen päätin panna rahaa pankkiin ostamalla käytettynä pramean söpön Mulberryn Mabelin kullan värisenä. Ja hyvään hintaan!

Uuden vuoden vuoksi lupaan, etten osta yhtään kultaista laukkua tulevana vuonna.

Onnea uudelle vuodelle, se on varmasti täynnä kullanarvoisia mahdollisuuksia!

Fashion Relationships

I have liked ads and clothing of Comptoir des Cotonniers since I first saw them in the mid 90's. Their mother-daughter relationship theme was unique, the mother was presented as a youthful and cool person who can use same style as her daughter. Relationship was real as they have picked real mother-daughter pairs to their ads. However the clothes were stylish, not anything too teenage for a credible mom.

I am still buying the concept. A while back I saw blogger Miss Pandora in an ad with her mother in Comptoir des Cotonniers ad. It is nice to see that good ideas (even in marketing) can last maybe not forever but tens of years.

Recently I have seen girlfrind-boyfriend relation theme in ads by The Kooples. I believe they are real couples. All the couples are cute, somehow very fresh and up to the date. Style of these couples is unite but not boringly unisex and their clothes are very stylish. I see there some hip seventies vibe but there is also lot's of classic black in the collection.

These relation themes are to me cosy but also cool. There must be more of these out there.

Muotisuhteita

Olen pitänyt Comptoir des Cotonniersien mainoksista ja vaatteista siitä saakka, kun niitä ensimmäsitä kertaa yhdekänkymmentäluvun puolivälissä näin. Äiti-tytär mainokset erottuivat muista mainoksista erilaisena konseptina. Positiivista oli uudentyyppinen äiti, joka on nuorekas ja käytti tyttärensä kanssa samantyylisiä vaatteita. Suhde oli aito, sillä mainoksiin oli valittu oikeita äiti-tytär -pareja. Vaatteetkin olivat kivoja, eivät mitenkään liian nuorekkaita, jotta äiti olisi näyttänyt niissä naurettavalta.

Äskettäin huomasin bloggaaja Miss Pandoran äiteineen Comptoir des Cotonniersin mainoksessa. Oli mukavaa huomata, että hyvät idea kestävät aikaa, jopa markkinoinnissa, ehkeivät ihan ikuisesti mutta hyvin pitkään.

The Kooplesillakin on suhdemainoksia, tyttöystävä-pokaystävä -teemalla. Mainoksissa näyttäisi olevan oikeita pareja, jotka ovat oikein söpöjä, raikkaita ja jollain tapaa hyvin tätä päivää. Pariskuntien tyyli on tyylikäs ja yhteneväinen, muttei tylsällä tavalla uniseksi. Näen muodikasta seitkytlukulaisuutta mallistossa, mutta mukana on myös klassista mustaa.

Suhdeteemamainokset ovat minusta herttaisia ja samalla viileitä(!). Näitä täytyy olla olemassa enemmänkin.

It is January, US Vogue cover says 'Fashion 2011 Amazingly Wearable Clothes to Love Forever' and InStyle magazine US 'Worth It! 8 Investment Pieces You'll Wear Forever'. Quite ecological way of thinking in fashion, cool.

InStyle presents stylish pieces, which they think 'leave you speechless'. The chosen ones are Celine's red handbag, Jason Wu panther printed silk dress, Balenciaga platform high heeled sandals in warm orangeish brown, Burberry crocheted khaki trench coat, Alberta Ferretti light pink silk chiffon festive dress, Michael Kors grey toned pyhthon boots and RED Valentino see-through dotted shirt. Stylish full page beautiful pictures of forth coming style. I would say those are modern pieces with classic twist.

Vogue did not write just one article about classics, instead they have article collection in which they tell in joga terms to let go. 'Let go of the old to allow something new and better to enter your life' and 'throw all your clothes on symbolic pyre and move ahead'. I can understand the message but it is easier said than done, at least if you have very many classics in your closets. How about re-using our existing wardrobe with some kind of new twist.

In Vogue there are stories like 'Brief Encounter' presenting feminine and elegant summer suits and dresses and 'Arch Rivals' showing 'highly wearable, walkable sensibility' shoes photographed in a way which reminds of 80's and 90's style. In each article photos are very stylish. Most items are photographed on beautiful people. 

Steal of the Month is 'Electric Avenue' in Vogue is all about bright electric colours, but to be honest yellow and orange are combined with neutral white and brown. In 'New Order' there are four very fresh different labels and their designers introduction. 'She Wears the Pants' shows six pair of super wide legged trousers combined with different tops in very chic 70's style. Last look -column introduces charasteristic Silvana bag from Fendi, they tell inspiration was 70's actress Silvana Mangano.

I would select Alberta Ferretti's fabulous pale silk dress and something from fresh Rag & Bone. Wide pants I already have, they are classics dating back to 2000's. 70's I love, fortunately there are couple of nice bag's from that period in my bag closet already.

Are these pieces the ones Jackie O, Jane Birkin, Audrey or Kate Moss would love and wear forever? Classic is that.

Voguen jenkkiversion kannessa lukee vapaasti käännettynä "Vuoden 2011 mielettömän käyttökelpoiset vaatteet, joita tulet rakastamaan ikuisesti" ja myöskin jenkkiläinen InStyle lehti huudahtaa: "Sen arvoista! Investoi näihin kahdeksaan kappaleeseen, joita tulet käyttämään ikuisesti". Uskomattoman ekologinen ajattelutapa tämä ikuinen muoti.

Itse haluaisin lehdissä esitellyistä Alberta Ferretti mekon ja  ehkä jotain tuoreelta merkiltä Rag & Bone. Leveitä housujanhan minulla on jo entuudestaan samoin kuin vintage laukkujakin. Edustavatko minun valintani tai kahden tammikuisen lehden vaatteet ja asusteet sitä, mitä Jackie O, Jane Birkin, Audrey Hepburn tai Kate Moss olisivat rakastaneet ja käyttäneet ikuisesti? Silloin se vasta olisikin klassikko.
