Pathfinders in the white

Unless you happen to live in the middle of a metropolis the chances are you are surrounded by wildlife. As our primal senses have somewhat degenerated since leaving (our ancestors, that is) the great planes of Africa, we mostly just ignore all the critter activity around us.

However, the winter works its magic again. Snow blanket turns the landscape into carbon paper revealing every nightly visitor -small or big. Some of these findings are what you might expect, while others really surprise you. A year ago I found out a wolf had killed a deer in my friends´ front yard, no further than 40 kilometres from Helsinki. Without a fresh coat of snow I would have bee totally oblivious what taken place in the early hours of dawn.

Next time you come across landscape covered with snow keep your eyes open for the signs left by those pathfinders in the white.

How to be cool in freezing winter?



It has been cold in Finland. I mean really cold. With tens of Celcius degrees minus and wind in blowing like mad, it is difficult to find many woolen jumpers to fit under your winter coat.

Fortunately winter is really beautiful season. I mean really beautiful as you can see from the pics we have taken in Helsinki, Tampere and Tuusula recently.

My answer for the topic about dressing up stylish when it is -30 degrees out there is, sorry, it is impossible. Believe me, I have tried with differend kind of layers, winter hats, woolen scarfs and mittens.

I have to just put on the hood and be incognito (but relatively warm headed).

Kuinka olla tyylikäs jäätävässä talvessa?


Suomessa on ollut lähipäivinä kylmää. Siis todella jäätävää. Kymmeniä asteita miinusta, plus se luihin ja ytimiin imeytyvä viima. On ollut haastavaa löytää tarpeeksi lämpimiä villapaitoja, jotka myös sopivat takin alle.

Onneksi talvi on kuitenkin tosi kaunis vuodenaika. Siis todella kaunis, kuten kuvista näkyy. Ne on napattu lähiaikana Tuusulassa, Helsingissä ja Tampereella.

Vastauksena otsikon kysymykseen tyylikkyydestä jäätävässä talvessa vastaukseni on ikävä kyllä, että älä unta näe, se on mahdotonta. Olen kyllä yrittänyt monia tylikkyyden tapoja kerrospukeutumisen, talvihattujen, villakaulaliinojen ja käsineiden yhdistelmillä. Mutta ei.

Olen ratkaissut tämän vetämällä hupun syvälle päähäni ja painamalla tuntemattomana, mutta suhteellisen lämminpäisenä, kylmyydessä.

Snowfall makes it every year


The cold does not attract me, but snowfall makes the city absolutely beautiful every year. Snow brings light in to darkness and harmonizes the ambiance covering what is irrelevant and leaving out all the most beautiful -in whatever it covers. Each season has its charm, without a doubt, when it comes to winter, it is snow.

Lumi kaunistaa


Kylmyys ei viehätä minua, mutta lumen tulo kaunistuttaa kaupunkia omalla tavallaan joka vuosi. Lumi tuo valoa ja harmonisoi ympäristön, jättäen alleen monia epäolennaisia asioita ja samalla jättäen esiin kaikista kauneimman. Jokaisessa vuodenajassa on oma viehätyksensä, talvessa se on ilman muuta lumi.
